Since the summer of 2015, colourful shoe sculptures have characterised the streetscape in Montabaur. The so-called ‘Mon-Stilettos’ accompany visitors on their way from the Fashion Outlet Montabaur to the city centre and have since become a popular photo motif in the city. As part of a citizens' campaign, independent artists, school classes, clubs, initiatives and companies have designed the giant pumps and thus contributed to the colourful diversity. With this project, the town is drawing attention to its old cobbler tradition, as the citizens of Montabaur are still referred to as ‘cobblers’ or ‘cobbler boys’ in the region today. The mon-stilettos are a modern interpretation of the historical theme.
