Almost half of the southern Westerwald is covered in forest. So it makes sense to turn the forest into a hiking theme. The multi-talented forest theme trail around the local communities of Girod and Großholbach is all about the various functions and typical characteristics of the forest The circular trail begins and ends at the Großholbach hiking car park south of the L318. The trail is 3.8 kilometres long and runs between the Eisenbach and Holbach streams. On 15 information boards, it tells you about the forest as a recreational oasis for people, as a habitat for plants and animals, as a waterworks and water reservoir, as a climate protector and air purifier, as a hunting ground, as an employer, as a timber supplier and economic factor and finally as a prime example of sustainability. The variety of themes and information allows hikers to walk through the forest with their eyes and ears open and their senses sharpened. This makes the new themed trail both a sensual and informative experience.
The current flyer for the themed trail is available here.
